Environmental noise measurement
Noise is among the most common causes of neighbourhood complaints and among the parameters environmental permits routinely require. We measure with a Cirrus CR:831C Class I sound level meter — the highest accuracy class — across daytime, evening and night-time periods. Periodic noise testing in the living and working environment falls within the scope of our IT-127 accreditation to MKS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012, Type A.

How the process works
Selecting measuring points
We select points at the site boundary and at the nearest sensitive receptors, based on the sources present.
Measurement by period
We measure during daytime, evening and night-time periods, as the limit values differ for each.
Background level
Where practicable we also measure with the source shut down, to separate your contribution from total noise.
Report
An accredited report with measuring points, conditions, meteorological data and a conclusion per point.
Frequently asked questions
Is noise measurement accredited?
Yes. Periodic noise testing in the living and working environment is within the scope of our accreditation IT-127 to MKS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012, Type A, valid until 5 September 2029.
Why must measurement also be done at night?
Because the limit values are stricter at night, and that is when most complaints arise. Daytime-only measurement gives an incomplete picture and is not sufficient for proceedings.
What if the limits are exceeded?
The report states which source dominates and by how much the limit is exceeded. On that basis we propose technical measures — barriers, insulation, a change of operating regime or relocating the source.
