Periodic workplace environment measurements
The employer must test for chemical, biological and physical hazards, microclimate and illuminance in the working and ancillary premises where technological processes take place. We carry out the measurements with our own instruments, and testing of noise, illuminance and microclimate falls within the scope of our IT-127 accreditation to MKS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012.
What the service covers
- Microclimate — temperature, relative humidity and air velocity (accredited method)
- Illuminance of work surfaces (accredited method)
- Noise in the working environment (accredited method)
- Vibration — hand-arm and whole-body
- Chemical hazards — dust, organic and inorganic gases and vapours
- Comparison against the binding occupational exposure limit values
- A report with findings and opinion, with a conclusion for each measuring point
- Proposed measures wherever values exceed the limits
This service falls within the scope of accreditation IT-127 to MKS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012, Type A.
How the process works
Measuring point plan
Measuring points are derived from the risk assessment and the workplace layout — we measure where employees actually stand.
Measurement under working conditions
Measurement is performed under normal process load, since idle readings say nothing about exposure.
Assessment against limit values
Results are compared against the binding limit values in the regulations, with a clear conclusion for each point.
Report and measures
You receive a report with findings and opinion. Where limits are exceeded we propose technical and organisational measures in priority order.
Frequently asked questions
Must measurements be repeated every three years?
No. The three-year cycle quoted across the industry derives from Rulebook 26/1967, repealed by Article 12 of the Rulebook on chemical agents (Official Gazette of RM no. 46/2010). Current law requires first testing within one year of commencing operations and re-testing after every change; the recurring interval is set by the risk assessment.
Which measurements are accredited?
The scope of accreditation IT-127 to MKS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 covers periodic noise testing, illuminance testing and microclimate testing — temperature, relative humidity and air velocity.
How do measurements affect health examinations?
The measured values determine the content and frequency of examinations. At noise exposure of 85 dB(A) or more the first periodic examination follows after 12 months, then every 18; at 90 dB(A) or more — after 6 months, then every 12 (Decree, Official Gazette of RM no. 60/2013, Annex 5).
How long do measurements take at our site?
It depends on the number of measuring points and the type of hazard. Microclimate and illuminance are quick, while noise and chemical exposure measurement must cover a representative part of the shift.
